The tiny Primus stove which attached to the top of a butane/propane cartridge was so quick and easy! It has an electronic starter switch so no matches were required, and it boiled water in no time at all. You just turn the gas on low, click the switch and presto, you have ignition! It can run on high, low and anywhere in between. It packs down to nothing and stores in a cute little square can and the whole thing weighs in at only about half a pound. While the two burner Max stove we used last year was quite handy and so light for a two burner, the Primus one burner is a gem as well. We used two Granite Gear packs and one of our Kondos Design. While the Granite Gear deluxe packs were a joy to carry, transferring the majority of the weight to the hipbelt, they are too tall to lay down in a canoe. We had to keep them upright and when the wind was blowing the packs caught the gusts and made for more difficult traveling. The Granite Gear packs were used for gear and personal packs and the Kondos specially designed food pack of course was used for our food. If you have used our Kondos food packs you have noticed that each year there are always a few changes. Lynn is constantly striving towards perfecting that pack and adding new details which will be beneficial. Each time we think it is just about perfect, Vicki and Dan Kondos come up with some new features that may work well. This year we moved the handles down a little to make picking up easier. Some mesh pockets were added to the front to let you store miscellaneous items like bug dope, sun lotion, sunglasses, etc. Foam pads were added to the inside of the back which improved the comfort of carrying them across portages. Who knows what you will find new and improved on next year's collection?! This story compliments of, John and Lynn O'Kane, owners of Voyageur North Outfitters in Ely, Minnesota.
