Mississippi River Pool 4 Backwaters

This month has been awesome for very large walleye. Many fish have been tipping the scales at 10pounds (hard to believe but true). There was a period of about five to seven days were the bites were minimum but the bite turn into huge walleye, this was definitely a period were you didn't want to miss a single bite.
During this period of time the weather was often cold and rainy, but well worth it in trophy fish. This guide service brought a 31" (14 pounder) to the boat! Recent catches are showing that the height of the spawn has taken place. The saugers are starting to show up again for anglers trolling and vertical jigging. White bass are also hitting as they always do when the walleye spawn has peaked. Walleye are being caught on many presentations from vertical jigging, to pitching jigs, and trolling cranks. The good eating sized walleye from 15 to 19 inch range have not went on a great bite yet this whole month, so I expect that to happen coming soon. The river has been high, but holding high and stable, therefore the water clarity being fairly clear even fro mid April.
Good luck!!!

With weather warming many anglers are beginning to focus on the open water season ahead. I am beginning to look for creek and rivers for some fishing action. The Mississppi River (Pools 2 & 4) are favorites of mine. Prespawn walleyes and saugers are moving upstream to feed, before they spawn when the water temps are right.
